Tension in Kiamaiko after boy, 17, allegedly shot by cops dies

A 17-year-old boy was reportedly killed on Thursday evening by a stray bullet in the Kiamako area of Nairobi.

It is reported that police who were on the patrol tried to stop a suspicious vehicle but locals demanded to know why, forcing the officers to shoot on the air to disperse them.

The teenager who was reportedly on the balcony of their rental house would be stuck by one of the bullets, leaving him with a life threatening  injury. 

Starehe Sub-county police commander Julias Kiragu confirmed the incident, saying officers on patrol were trying to disperse the surging mob before the incident occurred.

He said the boy who is a student at a local school was rushed to the the nearby MSF hospital but later succumbed to the injuries.

According to the locals, the shooting incident sparked tension in the area with an irate mob storming the Huruma police station and threatening to torch it.

Mr. Kiragu said all witnesses including relevant government institutions have been invited to record statements to aid investigations into the incident. 

The body of the decedent was removed to the  Chiromo mortuary
