A third suspect who is allegedly connected to the horrifying murder of Rwanda-based businessman George Mwangi Kamau has been detained.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended John Muikiriria Mwangi, who is said to have gone missing a day before the deceased was murdered, at Karinga in Gatundu South sub county.

According to DCI, his disappearance sparked speculation about why he mysteriously vanished on the same day the second suspect, Morris Mbugua, was hired by Gladys Njeri Mwangi alias Chania, the prime suspect and the deceased's wife.

Mwangi had worked at the home for four years and was last seen when Chania sent him to deposit some money at an M-pesa shop.

"The seasoned detectives found it was too much of a coincidence that the second accused Morris Kamau Mbugua was hired on October 8, 2022, by the main suspect Gladys Njeri Mwangi Alias Chania, a day before the death and disappearance of the deceased while John Muikiriria Mwangi, went missing on the same day," wrote DCI on Twitter.

Chania, who ran unsuccessfully for the Kiambu County Woman Representative seat on August 9th, was arrested on October 14, 2022.

Investigators believe the deceased, who had returned to Kenya from Kigali on September 13, 2022, was murdered because of his alleged involvement with one Lucy Muthoni, a secretary at a local school.

The 58-year-old's body was found dumped in Kieni Forest, Kiambu County, on October 12, just hours before he was allegedly supposed to fly back to Kigali.

The body was discovered wrapped in a polythene bag and buried beneath a pile of cartons.

According to the DCI, Chania reported her husband missing on October 11, 2022, at Mwea Police Post in Gatundu North.

Some of the weapons believed to have been used to brutally kill the engineer were recovered by detectives who visited the deceased's home in Mang'u, the suspected murder scene.

"Pieces of blood stained metal rods, blood soaked bed sheets, stained curtains and clothing were part of the exhibits that were recovered in the house," wrote DCI.

According to the DCI, the murder weapons were discovered in the master bedroom.

Meanwhile Chania and Mbugua were charged on 2nd November 2022 at Kiambu law courts. Mwangi will be arraigned today, Monday November 7 at the same court. .
