'This is my choice and my happiness' says 25-year old man planning to wed lover, 85

A bizarre story circulating on the internet about a 25-year-old Congolese man brazenly declaring that he will soon marry his 85-year-old lover has sparked a barrage of mixed reactions.

Muima, a man identified only as Muima, stated that he will marry his lover Thereza regardless of their age difference.

"I will never choose anyone over her. Though she is an old woman and in reality she could be my grandmother I still love her," said Muima in an interview with Afrimax English.

He added "This is my choice, this is my happiness as anyone else has theirs, before pleasing others first please yourself not basing on anyone else's opinions."

Narrating their encounter, Muima said that he and his friends had gone house hunting when he got a house owned by Thereza. A few months passed, and Thereza started to fall in love with him.

At the beginning of their encounter, Thereza teasingly called Muima her 'husband," which he took lightly. But the bond grew stronger each day, as Muima recalls the occurrences where he would lack transport money and Thereza would offer.

Such similar gestures warmed his heart, and he began to fall in love, and so their love story began.

The 85-year-old, who has eight children and 20 grandchildren, says she is looking forward to marrying her long-time boyfriend and can't wait to put on her white gown.

“I have eight children and 20 grandchildren. According to my boyfriend’s age, he could be my fifth grandchild. He loves me and I love him. I am ready to put on the wedding dress and ring, ” she said.

In preparation for the wedding, Muima was asked by the children to give 12 cows as the bride price, an offer he was willing to pay.

Comments on Instagram then flooded the post:

"Alafu upate huyo shosho ni kiki ana piga atoe ngoma, sai hakuna kitu na amini," said Nicki-bigfish.

"Sugar granny call her that," followed another comment.

"Love is really blind," added another.

"Shosho Muhimu," wrote another.

"Eeeeiii dunia simama nishuke."
