The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with other security agencies, has seized quantities of cannabis and arrested three suspects during a pre-dawn operation in Matuu Town, Yatta Sub-County, Machakos County.

The intelligence-led raid targeted two locations suspected to be involved in the distribution of narcotic drugs within Matuu and neighbouring areas.

At the first location, officers recovered 12 brooms of cannabis and arrested a female suspect alleged to be involved in retail drug sales.

At the second site, officers seized 360 small rolls of cannabis and about 100 grammes of suspected unprocessed dry plant material. Two suspects were arrested at the scene. Police also recovered weighing scales, rolling papers, rizzlers and other items believed to have been used in the packaging and sale of the drugs.

The suspects were taken into custody and booked at Matuu Police Station, where they are being held pending further investigations and arraignment in court.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr Anthony Omerikwa said the operation was part of ongoing multi-agency efforts to curb the supply of narcotic drugs in the country, following a directive to intensify the national fight against drugs.

The Machakos raid follows a similar operation carried out in Naivasha on Saturday, where NACADA-led officers arrested a suspect linked to a known trafficker and recovered a large consignment of cannabis.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as security agencies continue to target suspected drug distribution networks in different parts of the country.
