Three suspected cattle rustlers have been killed and an unknown
number of shoats that were stolen from Kob Dertu, Madoyaqa, and Garbatulla
areas in Isiolo County on Saturday evening recovered after a fight between the
criminals and residents.
According to Garbatulla Deputy County Commissioner
Stephen Nyakundi, about 1,400 shoats had been stolen by rustlers from the
neighbouring Samburu County.
Following the incident, the area residents came out in large
numbers and surrounded the village and were able to kill the three rustlers.
Mr. Nyakundi added that more shoats that were stolen are still
being sought out and the criminals hunted, noting that security agencies are
working tirelessly to combat crime and recover every stolen cattle from
the area.
He asked the communities to be vigilant as it is common for cattle
rustlers to be active during the December period.
The DCC also wants the herders to be in groups so that National
Police Reserve (NPR) officers can assist them easily and enhance their own
security.
