TIFA Poll: Raila most popular candidate at 47%, Ruto at 44%
A new poll by research firm
TIFA has placed Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga as the most
preferred contender in the August race to State House with a popularity rating
of 46.7 percent.
Deputy
President William Ruto came in second with a popularity rating of 44.4 percent
while his Roots Party counterpart Prof. George Wajackoyah was third at 1.8
percent.
Agano
Party presidential candidate David Mwaure's popularity stood at 0.1 percent
according to the survey conducted between July 21 to July 26, 2022, across nine
geographic regions including Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt. Kenya,
Nairobi, Northern Nyanza, South Rift and Western regions.
A total of 2,056
Kenyans are reported to have participated in the survey.
According
to TIFA, voting intentions for Odinga have changed somewhat across the country
in that he has become more popular in the said zones apart from Central Rift with his biggest gains being in South Rift, Nyanza, Western and Lower Eastern.
Odinga's
popularity was distributed across the regions as follows: Central Rift (15pc),
Coast (57pc), Lower Eastern (46pc), Mt. Kenya (24pc), Nairobi (58pc), Northern
(35pc), Nyanza (68pc) South Rift (45pc) and Western (48pc).
As
per a June TIFA poll, Odinga's popularity stood at 20 percent(Central Rift), 50
percent (Coast) 46 percent (Lower Eastern), 24 percent (Mt. Kenya), 58 percent
(Nairobi), 35 percent (Northern), 68 percent (Nyanza), 45 percent (South Rift)
and 48 percent (Western).
According
to TIFA, DP Ruto's popularity increased in six of the nine zones, especially in
the Central Rift and Mt. Kenya regions. His candidature however suffered major
declines in the Northern and Western regions.
The
DP's popularity rating was distributed as follows: Central Rift (83pc), Coast
(37pc), Lower Eastern (35pc), Mt. Kenya (66pc), Nairobi (35pc), Northern
(31pc), Nyanza (12pc) South Rift (34pc) and Western (26pc).
In
June the DP's popularity stood at 63 per cent (Central Rift), 26 percent (Coast)
29 percent (Lower Eastern), 53 percent (Mt. Kenya), 28 percent (Nairobi), 55
percent (Northern), 13 percent (Nyanza), 33 percent (South Rift) and 37 percent
(Western).
