Police hunt for six suspected masterminds behind Trans Mara clashes
Relative calm however returned in the area on Tuesday, as officers held patrols in Mapashi and Empurkel where tension was rife during the clashes.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify patrols to flush out what they reffered to as criminal elements hiding behind the veil of the emotive boundary dispute.
“Kitu sisi hatutaki ni vita. Sisi ni watu wa maendeleo unajua vita inaleta hasara mingi inaua watu na inaleta hasara kwa mimea na hiyo ni hasara kubwa sana,” said Mzee Lengisa, a resident of Empurkel.
“Tunataka serikali itusaidie tulale kwa nyumba kwa sababu ile siku ilichomeka mimi sikulala kwa nyumba niloijua,” added Sibia Nyang’au, a resident of Nyagenke area.
Elders from the Kisii and Maasai communities are expected to kick start peace talks on Wednesday, in a bid to resolve the long-standing land dispute that has caused intermittent clashes in Transmara for years.
The clashes that began on Sunday night are believed to be fueled by land disputes, as communities in Kisii and Narok counties lay claim to the expansive Mapashi fields, in Trans Mara West.
Security organs have now restricted movement in the affected area, as they intensify operations to pacify the warring factions.
