Tragedy as woman is murdered in her home

Residents of Kanyamaji Village in Nyalgunga Sub-Location were filled with shock and grief when a body of a 41-year-old woman was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house on Monday night.

The deceased, Eunice Achieng, was attacked at her home at about 8:00pm on Monday evening.

According to her young son, Achieng had gone to close the gate at around when she was attacked by individuals armed with crude weapons.

Speaking to the press, the boy said that the attackers dragged his mother back into the house where they proceeded to beat her senselessly. He added that the assailants rounded the children up and ordered them to go to sleep as their mother cried for help.

The children woke up later on to find their mother dead.

Assistant Chief Mr. Peter Ochieng told Citizen Digital that the children then alerted members of the public who eventually called the police.

He stated that the woman’s husband, Ouma Mkudo, who is a deputy head teacher at Nyalgunga primary school, was apparently absent when incident took place.

Siaya OCPD Michael Wanyoike, who confirmed the incident, said the body of the woman has since been removed to Siaya County Referral Hospital Mortuary as investigations begin.

Two kids drown in Bondo

In a separate incident, two children (aged 5 and 3) died after they slipped into a well and drowned In Ajigo Sub-Location, Bondo.

According to Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Samson Akach, the children had been sent to fetch firewood when they slipped and drowned.

Akach, who confirmed the Monday evening incident, said the bodies of the children were retrieved and taken to Bondo district hospital morgue to await postmortem.

The Deputy County Commissioner cautioned parents and guardians against sending their children near any water bodies especially during this rainy season, to avert such tragic incidents.
