Treasury CAS loses Ksh.4M in cash at home, manhunt launched for house help
Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for
a 45-year-old woman accused of stealing a sum of Ksh.4 million from the home of
her employer, Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary Nelson Gachuihe.
In the incident reported by CAS Gachuihe at
the Lang’ata Police Station on Wednesday, Miriam Muinde is said to have picked the
cash from his wardrobe and assorted jewellery worth Ksh.500,000.
Her phone signal was traced to Rongai before
it went off radar at 10pm on Wednesday.
The incident now adds to a growing list of
theft by domestic workers, with the most recent being the arraignment of Violet
Mukari at the Kibera Law Courts on Wednesday, where she was accused of stealing
a total sum of Ksh.600,000 from her employer in Parklands.
Violet also faced a second count of handling
stolen property after Ksh.30,000 was found stashed inside a flask in her house
and another Ksh.46,000 in her mobile money wallet.
She denied the charges and was released on a
bond of Ksh.300,000 pending mention of the case on June 27, 2022.
On May 30, Shelmith Kiprono was arraigned at
the Kibera Law Courts facing charges of stealing a sum of Ksh.104 million from
her employer in Lang’ata.
Shelmith was accused jointly with three other
people is said to have stolen about Ksh.99 million in cash and jewellery worth Ksh.4
million as well copies of a log book and title deeds valued at Ksh.104 million.
Police recovered Ksh.2.5 million from her.
The four co-accused persons had each been granted Ksh.7 million bond bond which
was later reviewed to Ksh.1 million.
On May 9, Ruth Kageha and Violet Aluse were
arraigned, facing charges of stealing Ksh.32.7 million from their employer at
Tipuwama apartments in Karen.
In documents presented before court, the two
are reported to have stolen three golden rings and a black bag containing USD 280,000
(approx. Ksh.32 million).
The two pleaded not guilty and were released
on a cash bail of Ksh.5 million each.
