Turkana County top KCSE candidate attains A-

Lodwar High School has produced to top candidate for Turkana County in this year’s KCSE examinations.

Brian Muruttu Wekesa from Lodwar High School attained a mean grade of A- with 79 points, shooting to the top for the entire county.

According to the school’s head teacher, Mr Lokwayen, Brian deserved to be commended for attaining such a high grade in this year’s KCSE exam despite the fact that the school suffered from a shortage of teachers.

Statistics from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) indicate that Turkana County falls fourth in the list of Counties most affected by the shortage of teachers.

Lodwar High School registered 165 candidates for the KCSE 2016 exam. Out of them 14 scored A- (minus), 25 B+ (plus), 8 B (plain), 19 B- (minus), 25 C+ (plus), 14 C (plain), 16 C- (minus), 22 D (plain) and 8 D- (minus).

In total, 91 students out of the 165 registered KCSE 2016 candidates from Lodwar High school will be enrolled in universities in 2017.

According to the KCSE 2016 results announcement made by Education CS Fred Matiang’i on December 29, only 15.4 per cent (88,929 candidates) of the 577,079 candidates who sat for this year’s KSCE exam will get the chance to join public universities next year.
