Two boys on Saturday suffered serious injuries after they accidentally detonated an abandoned explosive while looking after their fathers’ goats in Kikurrukur village of Majimoto sub-location, Narok County.

The two boys, aged 12 and 6 years old, were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital in critical conditions with eye and leg injuries from the exploding shrapnels.

Local sources indicate that there are other undetonated ordnances in the area since it was reportedly a military training field in the 1980s.

Area residents have since been urged to stay away from any suspicious metallic or military ordnance and instead report such immediately to the authorities.

Officers from a nearby Kenya Air Force Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Narok West have been alerted to send Combing and Detonation units to the area.

The scene has been secured awaiting the arrival of bomb experts.
