The Rongo Magistrate Court has approved a request from the
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to detain four people for
an additional 21 days while investigations continue.
Among those detained are two directors from St. Joseph Mission
of Messiah in Africa Limited Church.
The prosecution team requested the extended detention of
Michael Kus Onyango, Luka Ochieng, Everline Gemamo, and Lilian Atieno Olal. The
four will remain at Kamagambo Police Station during the investigation period.
The investigation centres on the mysterious death of a GSU
officer and verification of Public Health Act compliance. According to the
prosecution, the inquiry is nearing completion, and formal charges will be
filed once investigations conclude.
The ODPP has submitted a separate request for court orders to
exhume the remains of the GSU officer. The officer was reportedly buried on
March 28, 2025, within the church compound in Rongo, Migori County.
Police Constable Adan Ayoo allegedly died under unclear
circumstances on March 27, 2025, and was buried without the knowledge or
consent of his family or employer.
The ODPP is requesting the exhumation to conduct a post-mortem
examination at Migori County Referral Hospital to establish the cause of death.
The court has scheduled the next mention for May 27, 2025, to
address the exhumation request, while the case will return for additional
directions on June 12, 2025.
