Two dead in Mombasa accident

At least two people died and scores injured following a road accident at Tiwi along the Mombasa – Lungalunga road Friday, September 23.

The accident, involving two 14-seater Public Service Vehicles (matatus), happened after the lorry attempted to overtake one of the PSVs that was picking passengers by the roadside when it collided with the second one that was oncoming.

According to Kwale County Commissioner, Kutswa Olaka, the injured were rushed to Msambweni Hospital.

Olaka said that they will conduct a crackdown on unroadworthy vehicles which he blamed for the rising road carnage in the area.

Residents had earlier on blocked the road demanding that bumps be erected saying that the area is a blackspot that has claimed many lives.
