Two injured, MP’s car damaged as youth clash in Kitui

Two people were injured and a vehicle belonging to Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi vandalised after chaos erupted during a meeting convened to launch a water project in Kitui County on Sunday evening.

Trouble began after supporters of the MP stormed the meeting accusing the organisers of belittling Mr. Mulyungi and failing to invite him to the event.

A fierce clash ensued as irate youth reiterated, pelting supporters of the MP with stones throwing the event into disarray.

The MP, who had also accompanied his supporters, was forced to scamper for safety as police fired in the air to disperse the warring groups.

Sources told Citizen Digital that Mr. Mulyungi came to the meeting later after a tip off that speakers at the event were castigating him for his feud with Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

Shortly after arriving at the venue, alleged supporters of the MP began heckling before the situation flared out into a fight.

When contacted over the matter, Mr. Mulyungi claimed that Governor Ngilu was using her supporters to fight him politically.

Mwingi Central OCPD John Nyamu confirmed the incident, saying they were inetrrogating various individuals and that necessary action would be taken against the culprits.

Last month Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka cautioned the Mwingi Central over a recent spat with Ngilu.

Kalonzo reiterated the need for unity among the Kamba community ahead of the 2022 political race.
