Two Moi University security guards who were arrested over alleged rape of a first year female student have been charged in an Eldoret court with rape and touching of the student’s private parts.
Appearing before Eldoret Chief Magistrate, Charles Obulutsa, Ezekiel Barmasai and Timothy Kemboi denied the charges and were freed on Sh500,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.
The court was informed that the two allegedly committed the crime on Saturday, October 7.
The guards allegedly took advantage of the first year student, who had allegedly been caught with a male colleague at around 2am in the hostels against the institution’s rules.
In a circular to students, the Dean of Students, Dr J.S Ayieko, has asked anyone with information on any other related incident to report to the administration, insisting that the university is committed to ensuring justice for victims.
The case will be mentioned on October 9 and the hearing for November 2 this year.
