Two officers, government staff killed in Mandera IED attack

According to reports, the officers died instantly while five others sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident which occurred late last evening.

Mandera county commissioner Amos Mariba said an escort vehicle ferrying the victims was totally damaged by the explosive device suspected to have been planted by the Al-shabab terror group.

Commissioner Mariba said a reinforcement team immediately arrived and engaged the attackers who later disappeared in a nearby thicket.

Injured officers have been taken to Nairobi for further medical attention as the bodies of the deceased were taken to a morgue.
