Two ex-City Hall officials jailed over Mavoko cemetery land scam

Two ex-city hall officials have been sentenced to two years in jail and fined a total of Ksh. 77 million after they were convicted in a multi-million shilling cemetery land scandal.

The two; Boniface Okerosi Misera and Cephas Kamande Mwaura who were before Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo, were part of four Nairobi City Council officials  charged in the much publicized Nairobi cemetery land scandal.

Misera, who fraudulently pocketed Ksh.10 million has been fined Ksh. 40 million while Mwaura was fined Sh 37.2 million for fraudulently earning Sh 9.3 million belonging to the defunct Nairobi city council.

The fraudulent purchase of the Mavoko cemetery land followed reports that Lang’ata cemetery was full and  hence need to acquire new space.

The other two accused City Council officials are Geophrey Odhiambo Majiwa and Geofrey Charo Katsoleh.

The four have been charged with corruption after receiving a total of Ksh. 283,200,000 for the fraudulent purchase of  Mavoko Cemetery.
