Police in Mombasa on Sunday said they arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of drug trafficking and intercepted a haul of marijuana in the process.

The bust followed a tip-off from members of the public of a suspicious parcel from a bus that arrived at the Mwembe Tayari bus station from the western town of Homa Bay.

The two, identified as Pamela Akinyi Ochichi and Daniel Agolla Ogwen, were arrested at the booking office after claiming the cargo, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“Upon inspection, the package was found to contain multiple rolls of cannabis sativa,” said the agency, sharing photos of the two suspects with a 90-kilogram gunny bag.

The two are in custody at the Mombasa Central Police Station awaiting arraignment.
