Two-year-old boy killed after semi-permanent house collapses in Bondo

A two-year-old boy died and his mother together
with his three other siblings were left seriously injured after their
semi-permanent rented house collapsed on them in Bondo town on Thursday night.
The deceased boy Paul Scoll Omondi, together with
his 35-year-old mother Lilian Aoko, siblings Clinton Okoth (10), Michael Omondi (8) and Fransisca Atieno (5) were
asleep at around midnight when the house collapsed.
According to Siaya County Police
Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the incident was reported to Bondo Police Station by
David Ochieng’, who is a boda boda operator within the town.
Mr. Kimaiyo stated that police officers who were on
patrol then rushed to the scene and established that the mud walls of a
semi-permanent rental house comprising of three single rooms had soaked
due to the ongoing rains and caved in.
The police boss said that during the ill-fated
incident, Lilian together with her three children Clinton, Michael and
Fransisca sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Bondo sub-county
hospital for treatment.
Her fourth child Scoll, however died on the spot
due to the impact of the collapsed walls.
Mr. Kimaiyo stated that the body of the child was taken
to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while tenants
who were in the neighbouring houses have been evacuated and advised to seek
shelter elsewhere.
