UASU files contempt of court charges against Amina Mohamed

The university lecturers body UASU has filed a contempt of court against Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and others for allegedly not providing them with a counter proposal.

The lecturer’s body claims that the has declined to participate in the conciliation process adding that she has also refused to authorise a counter proposal being made.

“She made public comments that no counter proposal will be made until a job evaluation is done by her ministry,” the lecturers said.

UASU also want Profs. P.W.N Kanyari and F.W.O Aduol; CS Henry Rotich, the Attorney General and secretary of the Salaries and Remuneration Commisssion Anne Gitau be held in contempt of court.

They are demanding that the six government officials either be committed to civil jail for a period of 6 months or directed to pay a fine of Ksh. 200,000 each for failing to provide the union with a counter –proposal as directed by the court last month.

In a certificate of urgency filed at the court, UASU claims that the six have not complied with the court order neither have they appealed for a stay of the same.

“As a result, the claimant conduct negotiations cannot proceed as stated in the conciliators report dated 16th April 2018,”read court documents.

Further the lecturers union is blaming CS Mohammed and others for sabotaging the conciliation process.

“Whereas the court order of 16th March 2018 was explicit that all parties were to submit themselves before the conciliator to fast track the conciliation process, the interested parties have blatantly refused to submit themselves to the conciliation process,” the affidavit by UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga reads in part.
