UDA to hold repeat nominations in Starehe, Kamukunji over 'violence'

UDA NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura addresses the press on April 14, 2022.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party now says it will hold repeat nomination exercises in Starehe and Kamukunji constituencies following disruptions occasioned by violence.

UDA National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman Anthony Mwaura, during a press address on Thursday evening, said the party had launched investigations into the incidences of violence in the two constituencies.

According to Mr. Mwaura, any candidate found culpable for the incidences will be held accountable.

He added that any aggrieved parties should also channel their frustrations to the party’s electoral nomination dispute resolution committee.

“There were some disturbances here and there but they came about because we are the most popular party. We have had to postpone some…Nominations to be repeated in Starehe and Kamukunji constituencies due to violence that caused or disrupted the exercise,” he said.

“But let me tell you, all candidates…those that were involved in the destruction of ballot material… must take responsibility for their action. In areas or constituencies where nominations were disrupted we’ll repeat the nominations but those involved must pay the price.”

While vowing to respond with fairness and justice, the party further stated that no complaint had reached its 9-member dispute resolution committee as of yet.

Accordingly, the party urged aggrieved aspirants to file their complaints within 48 hours, upon which they shall be responded to within 12 hours.

The party said voting in the nomination exercises is presently closed in all centres across the country and counting is underway.
