A Uganda Prisons Service officer is on the run after allegedly shooting dead three people at Kiboga Prison on Sunday, officials have said.

In a press release dated February 23, 2026, the Prisons Service said the incident occurred at about 10:00am when No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses opened fire on his supervisors, killing them.

The victims were identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine (Deputy Officer in Charge), Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright (third in command) and Ms Ayebare Sarah, the spouse of the Officer in Charge.

The statement said the suspect fled the facility after the shooting. Police were called in and secured the scene, with joint security teams launched to pursue him.

Although the firearm used in the attack has been recovered, the suspect remains at large and is considered dangerous.

Members of the public with information on his whereabouts were urged to report to the police.
