Ugenya ODM boss says suicide cases among youth on the rise
Ugenya ODM chairman, Darlington Ombayo, on Friday challenged parents from Siaya County to find a lasting solution to the rampant cases of suicide in the region.
Speaking in Ugenya Constituency, Ombayo advised the parents to guide and counsel their children, specifically the youth, in order to contain the rising suicide cases.
The chairman said that it is high time the matter was investigated by the relevant agencies to ensure that a solution is found.
He appealed to parents to teach their children on best practices to resolve differences without taking their lives.
Ombayo also noted that illicit brews such as chang’aa have proliferated the area and more youth are consuming it, something he said leads to depression and consequently suicide.
Chairman Ombayo called on the Deputy County Commissioner for Ugenya to urgently convene a stakeholders meeting to resolve the matter.
