Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he is now having a close relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Speaking to vernacular stations, Gachagua stated that Uhuru has become his friend since he apologised for mudslinging him during the elections period.

"Uhuru, Mama Ngina and the mountain people accepted my apology. Uhuru became my friend and besides speaking more often, there are things we are doing together," Gachagua told the media roundtable.

In March 2024, the Deputy President apologised to the former First Lady for bad politics during the 2022 General Elections.

He asked for forgiveness for tainting the name of Mama Ngina and Uhuru during the election campaigns.

“I am sorry for involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the last general elections politics. She is our mother. I therefore ask for forgiveness on behalf of our team for any inconvenience caused to her. I will never allow anyone to demean her or anyone from the region,” Gachagua told Kameme TV then.

“The former President Uhuru Kenyatta is our son. We worked together for 17 years and only disagreed for 2 years and now that’s the past. I pray for him in his retirement. Uhuru is one of us. We shall talk with everyone.”

Previously Gachagua had taken on Mama Ngina in several brawls. In one instance, he declared that Mama Ngina should surrender half of the Kenyatta land estate to the Mau Mau and their children claiming the land was grabbed.

He further stated that he had mobilised the families to receive the land from the former first family.
