Uhuru tells leaders to stop unnecessary politicking, wait for 2022

President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on leaders to go slow on political contests and instead focus on serving Kenyans.

The President said Kenyans need service from those they elected to serve them and there was need for calm on the political front until the next polls.

“We have elections every five years. Why can’t we wait for the next elections,” said the President as he called for national unity.

President Kenyatta said the objective of improving the lives of all Kenyans cannot be achieved if there is disunity among political leaders.

“Kenyans want service from those whom they elected. Leaders should respect each other because when it comes to development it is for all of us,” said the President.

He spoke at Uhuru Market where he joined hundreds of Nairobi residents led by Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko in a cleanup exercise also attended by senior United Nations officials.

At the same time, President Kenyatta warned millers that the Government will take action against them if they refuse to lower the price of maize flour to reflect the significant reduction in price of maize in the country.

President Kenyatta said it is wrong for businesses to charge Kenyans exorbitant prices which are not justified.

“I want to tell millers that we will take action against them because that is exploitation,” said the President.

On Thursday this week, the Head of State called on millers to reduce their prices to reflect the surplus in production as well as reduction of the cost of producing maize.

On his part, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said the Nairobi cleanup will be a regular exercise because city residents have seen its benefits.

The Governor challenged community groups especially youth organisations to take the lead in cleaning up the city.

Governor Sonko thanked the National Government for supporting the ongoing efforts to  improve the living conditions in the city through the Nairobi Regeneration Programme.
