The retired President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party has resolved not to field a candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election slated for November 27, 2025.

According to Pauline Njoroge, Jubilee’s Deputy Organizing Secretary, the party will instead support the joint candidate fielded by the opposition faction.

Ms. Njoroge went on to dismiss any reports to the contrary, noting that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has not issued nomination papers to any candidate in the race.

“As the Deputy Organizing Secretary of the Jubilee Party, I wish to set the record straight. The National Executive Council (NEC), which is chaired by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has not issued nomination papers to any aspirant for the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election,” she said in a statement on Friday.

“The Jubilee Party will not be fielding a candidate in this race. Instead, we will stand firmly behind the joint opposition candidate. Take this to the bank, and treat all other claims as pure hearsay.”

This comes after the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua-led Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) also dropped its candidacy in the race, opting instead to support the candidate fronted by the Democratic Party (DP).

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, on its part, has settled Leonard Muriuki aka Leo to carry its flag in the by-election.

The Mbeere North MP seat fell vacant after Geoffrey Ruku was appointed to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
