United Opposition to name 2027 presidential candidate after DCP's delegates conference

The leaders were speaking during the National Delegates Conference of the Justin Muturi-led Democratic Party in Nairobi on Wednesday.

The United Opposition, which includes party leaders from DCP, Wiper, Jubilee, DAP-K, PLP and DP party, says it is closing in on naming its 2027 presidential candidate.

The leaders also announced that they are instituting legal proceedings against perpetrators of the attack against DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua in a church in Othaya.

"I want to give my commitment and that of DCP that we shall make whatever sacrifice to make Ruto one term," said Gachagua.

"We will call for all the One Term Movement candidate and agree because that is how we will boost our voter turnout," said Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka.

"Anyone who is betting on our differences, you will lose your bet. We are going to remain together as United Opposition," said Jubilee's Fred Matiang’i.

The United Opposition said there was no other alternative in facing off with the incumbent President.

"Tuko pamoja with one common purpose, kuleta uongozi mmoja," said Martha Karua.

"Our unity is not a choice but an imperative if we are to remove Kasongo," said Eugene Wamalwa.

"Those defecting were moles. It’s a transfer window," said Rigathi Gachagua.

"History will judge us harshly not by what we said but by whether we rose when the nation needed us most," said Justin Muturi.

The leaders, while attending the DP National Delegates Conference at Ufungamano House, Nairobi County, announced that the United Opposition will take legal action against perpetrators of the attack against Gachagua in Othaya, Nyeri County.

"It is the only way to stop these senseless attacks," said Kalonzo Musyoka.

"Sunday's attack was an assassination attempt on my life," said Rigathi Gachagua.

The Opposition leaders also issued notice of plans to proceed to Vigilance House to formally present their complaints.

Delegates drawn from all the 47 counties formally endorsed party leader Justin Muturi as DP’s candidate for the 2027 presidential contest.

"As your flag bearer, I will champion for human rights and equality," said Justin Muturi.
