United States President Barack Obama to Visit Kenya in July

In a statement by Press Secretary Josh Earnest, read on his behalf by US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec at State House in Nairobi, Obama's trip will build on the success of the August 2014 US-Africa Leaders Summit.

"His trip will build on the success of the August 2014 US-Africa Leaders Summit and continue our efforts to work with countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya, to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions and improve security" read the statement.

The trip will be Obama's first to Kenya since he became President of United States in 2000 with his last and only other visit being when he was Senator for Illinois in 2006.

During that time, Obama visited his father's birthplace at Nyangoma Kogalo village in Kisumu county and was welcome by his family among them Grandmother Sarah Obama.

This will be Obama's fourth visit to Africa during his presidency with the last being in 2014 for the requiem mass of former South Africa president Nelson Mandela. Before that, Obama had visited Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania during his 2013 African tour where he noticeably skipped Kenya.

Obama's ties to Kenya can be traced back to his father, a Kenyan who went to the US for studies before returning to the country after his son's birth. Obama's father died 30 years ago, though the presidential ties with his Kenyan family has stayed intact.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is a gathering of start-ups, businesses and government leaders and will be held in Nairobi.
