A university Professor has been killed over a land dispute in Rusinga, Homa Bay County.

Prof Tom Odhiambo of the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) died on the spot after he was hacked on the head by two young men who also injured his father.

The land dispute reportedly resulted from an incident in which some of Prof Odhiambo’s neighbours encroached into his land some time back forcing him to seek intervention of the area Chief and the land surveyor to determine the boundaries.

Mbita Deputy Sub County Commissioner Peter Mutiso says that Prof Odhiambo and his father went to the disputed land ahead of the chief and surveyor.

On their arrival in the land, two young men arrived and one of them attacked Prof Odhiambo and hacked him with the panga.

Mutiso says that Prof Odhiambo got serious injuries on the head, leading to his instant death while his father sustained injuries.

His body was moved to MED 25 Kirindo Mortuary while his father was rushed to Mbita Sub-county Hospital for medication.
