A third-year student at Zetech University is
in police custody for allegedly selling fake Kenya Certificate of Primary
Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE)
examination papers.
Oscar Brighton, an Economics student, was
nabbed by undercover sleuths attached to the monitoring and surveillance unit of
the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) on Thursday.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations
(DCI) said Brighton was apprehended while in possession of the fake papers,
with others in soft copy in his mobile phone.
“He had created several WhatsApp groups where
candidates were asked to deposit between Ksh1,600 for Humanities to Ksh2,600
for Sciences,” noted the DCI.
The suspect who was termed as a 'serial
offender' is set to be arraigned and charged with examination malpractices.
“He will be charged with contravening section
28 of National Examination Malpractices Act 29, 2012,” read the statement.
This comes as Education Cabinet Secretary Prof.
George Magoha recently declared tough measures on all exam cheating offenders.
