US Secretary of State Blinken discusses bilateral ties in phone call with President-elect Ruto

President-elect William Ruto and United States (US) Secretary of State Anthony Blinken have held talks over bilateral ties between the two countries.

In a statement, Blinken said the talks focused on US-Kenya partnership and their shared global priorities.

He also emphasized his country's commitment to deepening close ties with Kenya on areas including economic prosperity, climate and energy, global health security, and democracy and security issues.  

At the same time, Blinken welcomed Kenya’s continued leadership on regional security challenges, even as he took time to congratulate Ruto following his election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya.

"Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Kenyan President-elect William Ruto. The Secretary congratulated President-elect Ruto on his election and commended all Kenyans for their conduct of a peaceful electoral process. Secretary Blinken also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to deepening the strong partnership between the United States and Kenya," the statement reads in part.

In a statement issued on Monday, the United States government congratulated President-elect William Ruto following the upholding of his election victory by the Supreme Court.

At the same time, the US congratulated Azimio La Umoja coalition flag bearer Raila Odinga for committing to abide by the Supreme Court verdict.
