Vihiga County announces more measures to combat COVID-19

Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Otichillo has announced that anyone who violates the directive to self quarantine will be forcefully isolated at Keveye Vocational training center at their own cost.

This comes after two Vihiga residents who travelled from abroad went on self quarantine for 14 days before being allowed to interact with other residents.

addressing the press on Friday at the county headquarters in Mbale, Governor Otichillo said the committee handling coronavirus in Vihiga has set up a 24-hour County Command centre at the County headquarters to coordinate all activities related to the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Mini command centers have also been set up at sub counties all the way to village level.

The Governor said who was  eight officers from the county’s department of health have been trained by the national government in Kisumu and will in turn train other officers from the executive to grass root level on handling of COVID-19.

The governor appealed to the residents to stay at home as one of the ways of preventing transmission of the disease.

He warned the youth who have been gathering for football training, saying that stern action will be taken against those found violating the precautionary measures set in place to prevent spread of the virus.

“I want to thank the healthcare workers for their commitment and continued support in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and the media for information dissemination on this virus,” said the Governor.

Vihiga County Commissioner Ochillo Oyugi, on his part, insisted that the curfew by the president will be fully implemented, adding that all open air markets in Vihiga remain closed as earlier indicated.

Oyugi assured residents that so far, no COVID 19 case has been reported in the county, urging residents to be vigilant.
