Waihiga Mwaura leaves Citizen TV, set to join BBC

Waihiga Mwaura is leaving Royal Media Services after 14 years to join the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Mwaura is the Managing Editor,
Multimedia, at Royal Media Services and has hosted Citizen TV’s highly-rated primetime
political news program, News Night, on Tuesdays.
"After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has come to an end. My next stop is @BBCNews, @BBCAfrica specifically Focus on Africa. I'll share more details soon, but in the meantime, see you on my last episode of #Newsnight at 9pm," he tweeted.
The celebrated journalist joined Citizen
TV in 2009 as a sports anchor and has continued to reinvent himself, switching
to the main bulletin as a news anchor in January 2017.
From October 2020, he led the special projects
desk as editor, before being appointed Managing Editor, Multimedia, in December
2021.
He has received various accolades during
his illustrious broadcasting career, among them the BBC Komla Dumor Award in
2018, and the CNN MultiChoice Award in 2012.
Mwaura clinched the inaugural Mo Amin
award for an investigative story he did on doping in Kenya.
Last year, he was named among the Top 25 Men in Digital by
SOMA for his work in championing the digital transformation journey for Royal
Media Services and introducing innovative products under Citizen Digital to
increase audience reach, optimize user experiences as well as increase revenue.
The newsman describes his career interests as governance, global politics, public policy, international relations and youth employment.
