Wambora wants enforcement officers to handle firearms

Embu Governor, Martin Wambora, now wants the county law enforcement officers to be trained on how to handle firearms.

Wambora said that there is need for the enforcement officers to handle firearms so as to offer maximum protection and security to the government officials and citizens at large.

Speaking while presiding over pass out parade for the 131 county law enforcement officers at Kairuri grounds in Embu North on Monday, September 19, Wambora said that the training will see the officers abandon the use of ‘rungus’ and take up firearms as a way of improving security.

He said that plans are at advanced stages where the National Police Service will be able to offer such training to the county enforcement officers.

At the same time, Wambora noted that some law enforcement officers will undergo special training to take over the roles of traffic marshals to help manage traffic in the county’s major towns.

Wambora said that the officers will be attached to traffic police for training until they are able to carry out the functions on their own.

He noted that the county lost millions in uncollected revenue due to poor enforcement.

He urged the officers to exercise transparency and loyalty while executing their mandate so as to shed the old Council Askari tag of harassment.
