Gladys Wanga: Im not interested in Homa Bay Governor Awitis job

Homa Bay County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has refuted claims that she intends to run for the gubernatorial race on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket should the Supreme Court dismiss an appeal filed by Governor Cyprian Awiti.

Awiti’s election was previously nullified by the Appellate Court in Kisumu following a successful petition by former MP Oyugi Magwanga.

The county boss, however, moved to the Supreme Court where he secured stay orders for the IEBC not to declare the seat vacant pending hearing and determination of his appeal.

Wanga denied claims that she is planning to resign from her seat and gun for Awiti’s job, adding that she intends to continue playing her role as the county MP until the next General Election.

“I want to make it clear here today that I was elected unopposed and, therefore, I still have the work of five years to complete,” said Wanga.

She added that the electorates will decide on her next political move in 2022 after completing her second term in office, noting that the rumors of her next step should be treated with contempt.

“After five years, you’re the people who will decide. But, for now, I will remain where I am. So let the rumors going round stop,” she said.
