Water cannon, anti-riot police as chopper with Sonko lands in Nairobi

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been taken to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) headquarters.

Sonko landed at Wilson Airport onboard a police chopper at around 2:30pm.

The Nairobi Governor was then transferred to Integrity Centre under tight security.

A convoy of police vehicles whisked the Governor from Wilson Airport through Mbagathi Way and then to Integrity Centre.

Traffic police cleared all the roads leading to EACC from Wilson Airport citing security reasons.

The road from Sagret Hotel to opposite Panafric remained closed for several hours.

Two police water canons, synonymous with riots, were seen making rounds at Integrity Centre.

Anti-riot police officers also patrolled the environs, ready to thwart any attempts by sympathizers to take to the streets in protest over Sonko’s arrest.

Nairobi Regional Commander Philip Ndolo is in-charge of the police operation.
