Former Transport and Infrastructure CAS Wavinya Ndeti has downplayed former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita’s prospects in the Machakos Governor seat.

Ms. Ndeti who is running for the county’s top seat in the August 9th General election under a Wiper Party ticket said she will not be intimidated by Mr. Waita.

“Do not remove him from the race, leave him there, I will deal with him early in the morning on that day… I do not fear him,” Ndeti told supporters on Sunday.

This is amid allegations that Waita, who is running under the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU), has been intimidating Wiper Party contestants in the race.

Both Wiper and CCU are under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition party, which has seen major sibling rivalry in the battle for the governor seat.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka previously indicated that there might be talks within the party to convince Mr. Waita to shelve his ambitions and back Wavinya’s candidature.

Mimi nina furaha ya kuona team ya Wiper iko strong, muwaangalie vizuri. Hao wengi ni vijana wetu. Bwana Nzioka my friend, I will talk with him. Kwa sasa mnaona Wavinya ako sawa sawa,” Mr. Musyoka told supporters in Masinga, Machakos County on June 12.

Waita, however, dismissed such proposals, asking Kalonzo to keep of the Machakos gubernatorial race and let voters make their own decisions.

"Kalonzo is neither a voter or a candidate in Machakos County, he has no business telling the people of Machakos who should vote, who should stand and who should not," Nzioka told Citizen Digital on June 13.

He further termed Kalonzo’s proposal as an act of desperation from Wiper, saying that they once saw him as a weakling.

Ms. Ndeti will battle it out with Mr. Waita,  Deputy Governor Francis Maliti  of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, and former Senator Johnson Muthama of UDA.
