Outspoken Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto, has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his recent ‘meat date’ at the Kenyatta Market in Nairobi.

Speaking at the 10th Anniversary of Tumoi Day Secondary School in Chepalungu, Bomet on Thursday, September 22, Ruto called on the President to work on improving devolution to ensure money trickles to the counties so that Kenyans can ‘eat meat’ like he does.

“We hear they are feasting on meat when we actually do not even have Ugali or vegetables. He should work on improving devolution so that we too can enjoy meat at least thrice a year,” said Ruto.

“It is unbelievable that there are people who eat meat from morning to evening yet here at the grassroots we only eat meat once a year; on December 25.”

He further hit out at President Kenyatta over his utterance at the funeral of veteran politician and Maasai leader, William ole Ntimama, when he told the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to continue salivating as Jubilee continued enjoying meet.

“How can we salivate when we do not even have saliva because of lack of water? We do not want the government to eat meat on taxpayers’ money, they should improve budgetary allocations for counties to better the lives of the locals.”

In his speech, President Kenyatta had told off the opposition over constant criticism of the Jubilee administration, saying they should put their house in order as he works on improving his Jubilee Party ahead of the next election.

“I would like to tell my friend Raila to keep off Jubilee affairs and sort their issue. They should know that we are the ones with the meat and we will keep eating it as they salivate.”

Prior to President Kenyatta’s address, CORD leader, Raila Odinga, had accused the government of sitting on the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) that seeks to solve land issues and historical injustices.

He also said that the late Ole Ntimama was an ODM supporter despite openly showing affiliation to Jubilee.

“After Ntimama led a section of leaders from the Maasai community to the State House meeting, he called me and told me that his was still in ODM and, therefore, we will bury him with the ODM flag,” said Odinga.

His remarks have, however, been disputed by Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, who accused him of deceiving the public during the address.

Nkaissery said that Ole Ntimama’s support for Jubilee was evident noting that Odinga’s claims were unfortunate and a move to gain political mileage.
