Deputy
President-elect Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that together with President-elect
William Ruto they will work towards fixing the country’s economy which is says
is country broken down.
Speaking on
Monday after the Supreme Court upheld their election victory, Gachagua said they
will hit the road running, noting that as the Kenya Kwanza government they understand
the uphill task lying ahead of them.
“I
want to urge our colleagues in this struggle. Those who have been persecuted, those
who have wounds, please let this victory heal all our wounds and let us get to
work. We have work to
do… We are inheriting a
dilapidated country with a Ksh.10
trillion public debt,” said
Gachagua.
He added: “We
are inheriting a country with 6 million young people without jobs. We are inheriting a country
with 14 million Kenyans
in CRB. We have work to
do and let no one cheat you it is easy. We have to work from day one.”
According
to Gachagua, Kenya’s problem has been bad leadership.
“This
is a great country and Kenya
has no problem. The
problem of Kenya is one
of leadership. Once you
put the right leadership into place this is a beautiful country with very
resourceful and hardworking people,” noted Gachagua.
The deputy
president-elect invited their competitors in the election to join them in
working towards transforming the country.
“Let
bygones be bygones and let all those who were against us, we invite them to
join us we build this country. We
have nothing against anybody because we are Kenyans and we are good people and all we want is the economic
transformation of our beautiful country,” he said.
At the same
time, Gachagua pointed out that their journey to victory was not easy, noting
that they had to overcome various challenges among them the weaponization of State
machinery.
“The
rocks that were put on our path could not be lifted by a human being. it is all
the work of God. it has been a long and tedious journey against all the odds,
serious mobilization and weaponization of the state machinery. Today the son of
an ordinary Kenyan whose father and mother are not known is the president of
the republic of Kenya,” he said.
