We are ready to work with Kalonzo but we don’t understand him, DP Gachagua says

While attending a thanksgiving ceremony in Kitui on Sunday, DP Gachagua said that they have tried to convince Kalonzo to leave the opposition but it has been imposible, claiming that he has been topsy-turvy with the requests.

The DP was responding to Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti's plea to President William Ruto, to rope Kalonzo into his government and assign him a slot.

"We have no problem with Kalonzo, we are waiting for him. You are the ones to decide what you will do with him because we don't understand him," he said urging leaders in Ukambani to help persuading Kalonzo.

"The truth is that we looked for him and when we try to convince him to join us he goes back to the opposition."

Gachagua further recounted the Azimio la Umoja running-mate interviews held in May, 2022, claiming that Kalonzo was humiliated but has still chosen to remain under the Azimio umbrella.

"Even the day he was embarassed we were the ones who defended him," he started his recap.

"You remember when he was called for an interview and he is asked questions like what is your name, give us your ID, who is your wife, what year were you baptised, where do you live, but he has still remained there. We cannot understand why he is confused."

He also used Kalonzo's attendance to last week's Mashujaa Day celebrations as another instance, saying that his presence hinted on his acceptance to join Kenya Kwanza but his thoughts were proven wrong after he was seen attending an Azimio meeting in Homa Bay on Saturday.

"During the Mashaujaa Day celebrations he also came and we thought that he has come back then yesterday we see him in Homa Bay. So we are ready for him, we are ready to work with Ukambani but we don't understand your leader. But we still respect and love him."
