'We have lost a great giant!' Uhuru says as he urges gov't to implement what Magoha started

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the government to honour the late Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha by implementing what he had started in the Education sector.

Speaking at the burial of Prof. Magoha in Gem, Siaya County on Saturday, Kenyatta remembered the late professor as a friend, a partner, a colleague, adding that the country had lost a great giant.

Kenyatta enumerated Prof. Magoha track record while working in his administration where he served in the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and Ministry of Education, noting that he was a man of "less politics and more work."

"If truly what everybody has said here is what they mean about what a great giant lies before us today, then implement what he started and let this country benefit from what he worked so hard to achieve," said Kenyatta.

He added: "Less politics and more work...that is who Magoha was and that is what we shall remember about him. We have lost a friend, a partner, a colleague...we have lost a great giant of this country."

The late Prof. Magoha has been credited for spearheading the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) which has been criticised and praised in almost equal measure.

While the current administration is on record stating that it will not scrap the new curriculum, President Ruto maintains that the new system of learning requires some review.

The Head of State appointed a Presidential Working Party on Education Reform to evaluate the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in the country.

The working party will also recommend appropriate reforms to other sectors of Kenya’s education.
