We’ll keep our party but support Uhuru in 2017-Kanu

A section of Kanu leaders have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to pledge his support for the party during the forthcoming General Elections.

West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) chairman Samuel Poghisio on Sunday said the independence party is ready to support the president during August 8, 2017 election.

“There are brokers in Jubilee administration who don’t want Kanu to support the party. We want the president to declare himself that he doesn’t want our support,” said Poghisio.

Despite their support for Uhuru’s presidential bid, they have ruled out the possibility of dissolving Kanu to join Jubilee Party.

“Kenya is a multiparty country and nobody should dictate to anyone which party to join. We will not merge with Jubilee Party but we shall support the government of the day,” said Lonyangapuo.

The KCAA chair who intends to run for the West Pokot Senate seat under a Kanu ticket said the party was not against the Jubilee administration but was keen to keep it in check.

“As citizens of this country, we need to push for ideologies that will help our nation achieve vision 2030. Politics that disunite leaders will not help us realize our goals,” he said.

The two were speaking at Murkwijt village where over 600 former councilors visited Senator Lonyangapuo to thank him for tabling a motion that will see them receive Ksh.1 million each in retirement benefits.
