We’ll strike if you don’t effect the new salaries- Wilson Sossion

Teachers will down their tools in September if the government does not honor their court awarded 60% pay increase, The Kenya National Union of Teacher (KNUT) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion has warned.

Speaking at St Monica Kamunyaka where he was the chief guest at the school’s prize giving ceremony, Sossion said that the government was appealing the ruling that awarded teachers the pay hike.

Terming the state’s move as disrespectful, Sossion informed the school that KNUT lawyers have already been served with papers from the Court of Appeal.

The Secretary General added that he is ready to go to jail if that is what it will take for teachers to get their money.

Sossion, who was accompanied by other officials from the organization, said that he is not willing to play politics with the government.

He added that KNUT will join hands with the retired teachers who were Thursday awarded Ksh42.3 billion in arrears which they have been waiting for 17 years.

Sossion also faulted the move by the Education CS to ban mock examinations in secondary schools.
