We’re independent, but we back Uhuru – ex-Jubilee aspirants

Independent candidates who lost in the Jubilee Party primaries have once more sworn their allegiance to President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying that their choice to run against the party’s choice at grass root levels does not mean that they oppose Uhuru’s re-election bid.

Insisting that they will not back out of the race in favour of Jubilee nominees, the candidates said that they are only running so that wanjiku could choose the leaders they wanted because the nominations were not free and fair according to them.

Led by sitting Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, the politicians – who have united under the Kenya Alliance of Independent Candidates – said that their right to run as independents is enshrined in the constitution.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Ihururu stadium, Nyeri Kabogo, who serves as the coalition chair, said that independents are set to dominate Kenya’s Parliament this August.

Uasin Gishu Governor Aspirant Bundotich Buzeki said the alliance was the new face of the country that was set to change country’s political landscape.

He echoed Kabogo’s statements about supporting UhuRuto’s campaign, saying that they will drum up support for the Jubilee pair as they run their own campaigns.

Over 10 candidates were present during the rally including Leonard Sang (Bureti MP aspirant), Bernard Bett (Bomet MP aspirant), governor aspirants John Mututho ( Nakuru) and Moses Kiarie (Nyandarua).
