Western Kenya leaders oppose Senator Cherargei's proposal to extend presidential term limit

A section of Western region leaders has opposed Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey’s proposal to increase the presidential term limit from five to seven years.

The leaders led by Bumula member of parliament Jack Wamboka and Matungu MP Oscar Nabulindo on Sunday told off the senator, accusing him of planning to return the country to a dark era.

Speaking at Mungore Primary School in Bumula constituency during the launch of the third phase of a Ksh.5 million feeding programme for Class Eight pupils, the Azimio leaders said they will shoot down any proposal aimed at changing the constitution to benefit few individuals, especially on the presidential term limit.

“Akili yake, bado anaishi katika kasumba ya moi, hajui ile mambo moi alitufanyia..watu wanaumia na anasema Ruto atutawalae miaka kumi na nne, hapana, hiyo hatutakubali, wananchi mta kubali, nataka tarifa ifikie, huu Didmus anakunywa chai na Cherargei tunaataka amfikishie ujumbe,” said Wamboka.

The leaders told Cheragei to brace himself for a fierce battle.

“Wako na nia ya kulet mswada ya kufanya president akuwe na limitles term, akae maisha yake yote, hapo wakienda hapo tutatwaonyesha, hatuwezi kurudi kwa katiba ya Moi, mtu apate miaka tano urudi debe, watu wakikubali wakupee ingine tano, kenya ni kubwa lazima watu wengi wapate nafasi ya kuongoza Kenya,” said Nabulindo.

While urging Cheragei to shelve his intentions, they said parliament should instead focus on coming up with measures to bring down the cost of living.

“Sisi tuiwa bunge, tutatndela kuskuma serikali watoe mesures ya kupunguza garama, next month tunaintroduce motion ya kupunguza gharama ya mafuta, lazima futa irudi chini, wananchi wanamuia,” Nabulindo said.

Meanwhile, amid the simmering supremacy battle among Western Kenya leaders, they told off UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala for what they said was disrespecting ANC and Ford Kenya leaders in his bid to push for the dissolution of the parties to join UDA.

“Kunavijana wachache wanadharau bionzi wetu Wetangula na Musalia, yule Malala anashinda akiwatukana, tunamwambie awaheshimu, tutembee pamoja tuhakikise wanaheshimika,” Kiminini MP Kakai Bissau said.
