‘I cannot come back, I'm happy’: Wetangula tells his ‘best political friend’ Kalonzo

Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has responded to his Wiper Democratic Movement party counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka’s pleas to join the Azimio-One Kenya coalition ahead of the August polls.

Wetangula now says that the calls by his former One Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principal, whom he also terms his “best political friend”, may have come a little too late.

Wetangula, who ditched OKA for Kenya Kwanza with Deputy President William Ruto and ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, affirms that he is contented with his newly-found allies hence cannot heed to Kalonzo’s request.

“Mimi siwezi rudi, he is my friend I don’t want to engage him, but I am very happy where I am. We’re going to win the elections and dalili inaonekana everywhere you can see," Wetangula told NTV on Wednesday.

“We are incomplete without him so it is mutual because nobody can deny that he is my best political friend in Kenya and I’m his best political friend.”

The Bungoma Senator further intimated that Kalonzo's move to back Raila Odinga’s presidential bid could have been arrived at after much coercion, arguing that the Wiper boss seems unhappy in the faction.

He however noted that even though he would still work with the former Vice President, his fallout with the ODM leader is past the breaking point and cannot be reignited no matter what.

“…he was pulled by the boss to where he is. I am in no doubt that he is in some certain degree of discomfort,” the legislator said.

“With Raila and I, we crossed the Rubicon…and no Roman soldier crossed the Rubicon and came back.”

Wetangula’s remarks came only hours after Kalonzo reiterated his earlier assertions of wanting to reunite with his bossom buddy.

“Weta ni rafiki yangu na ndugu yangu, ningefurahi sana akijiunga nami. We talk with him but we have not formally engaged but if we do, it will be a good thing. Now that you have given me the thought, I think I will pursue him,” Kalonzo said on the sidelines of the UPIA party National Delegates Conference (NDC).
