Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta turns 58 today.

He was born to Mama Ngina Kenyatta and the late Jomo Kenyatta as their second child.

The couple’s first born, Christine Wambui Kenyatta now known as Kristina Pratt, had been born eight years earlier.

Last year in September, the midwife who had helped Mama Ngina give birth to her second child met President Kenyatta during his visit to Kakamega.

In an earlier interview, Fredah Shibonje had narrated how his father had rushed into the hospital with his VP, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, in tow.

Fredah was the nurse on duty at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi that day.

She recalled the two men accompanying Mama Ngina out of a VIP vehicle and then they left shortly after she was admitted, a report in the Daily Nation reads.

Hospital records show that Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was born at 11:10am on October 26, 1961.

Later that evening, President Jomo Kenyatta reportedly came back to the hospital to see his newborn son.

He would later be quoted in The Nation as saying how he was “very happy” about having become a father again at 71 years.

As a child, Uhuru accompanied his father to many public functions as seen in the photos below:

Uhuru’s other sister Anna Nyokabi Muthama Kenyatta was born two years later while their younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta was born in 1965.

Uhuru went to Loreto Convent Valley Road School in Nairobi before it became an all girls institution.

He then joined St Mary’s School and for higher studies, Amherst college in the United States (USA) where he graduated with a degree in Political Science.

He led a fairly private life, getting his first job as a bank teller at the Kenya Commercial Bank(KCB) and taking part in their family business before former President Daniel Moi thrust him into the public limelight.

He married to Margaret Gakuo in 1991 and they later had three children: Jaba, Jomo and Ngina.

Uhuru Kenyatta also served as chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), nominated MP, Gatundu South MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

On Saturday, Kenyans took to Twitter to send their birthday wishes to the President.

His Deputy William Ruto said: ”Happy birthday to my friend & Boss H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta. You are a great inspiration to me, Jubilee leadership & millions of Kenyans as the youngest president we’ve ever had. As we age, I looking forward to what we agreed on to do when we retire. Remember?Ubarikiwe mpaka Ushangae!,” the Deputy President William Ruto said.

City lawyer Donald Kipkorir said: “Dear President Uhuru Kenyatta, I join all Kenyans of goodwill to say #HappyBirthdayMrPresident …. We will stand with you to deliver your Big4, BBI & to End Corruption.”
