Whirl Wind Disrupts Belio Kipsang’s Event, Injures Pupils

Six pupils sustained severe injuries following a whirlwind at Ugenya Teachers Training College (UTTC) on Monday.

A strong wind blew off tents whose metal stands hit and injured the pupils who were then rushed to Nyang’u dispensary for treatment.

The six pupils of Nyaharuwa primary school in Ugenya constituency were entertaining guests during a ceremony to hand over the newly built structures at the college.

The tragic incident disrupted the function that had been graced by Education PS Belio Kipsang and Ugenya MP David Ochieng.

SCAMPERING TO SAFETY

Dignitaries, including Siaya County Commissioner Caroline Onchoka and Siaya County Executive Committee Member for Education Pamela Akelo, had to secure themselves under the tables as members of the public including students scampered to safety as the wind blew off the tents throwing metal bars and tarpaulins into different directions.

This comes a week after a strong wind blew classrooms at Buru primary school in Rarieda Siaya County leaving over 150 pupils to learn under a tree.

According to the school’s head teacher Mr Mourice Odeyo, the heavy windstorm erupted and completely brought down the roofs of the administration block and classes 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively.

Stationery and furniture were destroyed during the incident, and the wind also created huge cracks that weakened the walls of the other buildings.
