Who is Mwangi wa Iria?

Murang'a Governor Francis Mwangi wa Iria is a two-term governor who was first elected on a TNA ticket for his first term and on a Jubilee ticket for his second.

Wa Iria is now the party leader and presidential flag bearer of the Usawa Kwa Wote party.

The 58-year-old father of three has based his presidential campaign on the promise to transform lives through agriculture.

But who is Mwangi wa Iria?

Born one year after the county gained independence, Wa Iria attended Kiboi primary school in Murang'a county for his primary school education, before joining Weithaga Boys’ High School in Kiharu, Murang'a.

His educational journey took him to Moi University before he travelled to the UK for further studies at the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply.

Wa Iria, known for his grip on Murang'a county politics since 2013 when he took office, previously held the role of the managing director at the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC).

3 years after he clinched his second term as the Murang'a county boss, Wa Iria set his sights on the country’s presidency and declared his interest to run in this year's General Election.

Wa Iria has named Alfayo Onyambu who hails from Kisii County as his running mate.

Onyambu worked in the transport sector at the National Road Safety Agency and Kenya Transport Association and had also served as a board member of the Kenya Port Community members association.

Onyambu unsuccessfully ran for political office in 2017 where he contested the Kisii Senatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket

Wa Iria who claims to be the custodian of the Kikuyu cultural shrine in Murang'a is also pledging to unite the rich vote central Kenya as he aspires to lead the whole country.
