A Nairobi court has charged a woman with biting off her lover's ear during a fight over 'insufficient fare.'

After failing to resolve their relationship problems, Zainabu Ochero is said to have committed the heinous act on lover Joseph Karanja during a brawl.

According to reports, Ochero agreed to meet Karanja at a bar in Kangemi on February 21 to settle the disloyalty issue.

After a while, an argument ensued between the two forcing Ochero to leave the bar for her house. She returned hours later after Karanja called her back.

They started arguing again, after swilling a couple of drinks, as Karanja kept accusing Ochero of having flings with other men.

When the situation got unbearable for Ochero, she asked Karanja to call a bodaboda so she could head home. Karanja instead gave her Ksh.100 while insulting her.

Ochero is believed to have then bit off Karanja's ear after the incident escalated.

Karanja was rushed to a hospital with his disjointed ear, but doctors said a reconstruction surgery was not feasible.

Narrating the ordeal to police officials, Ochero said that she was totally drunk and only woke up at Kangemi police station later that day.

She was charged with unlawfully causing serious injuries to Karanja by senior resident magistrate Charles Mwaniki at the Kibera law courts on Tuesday. She, on the other hand, denied the charges and was released on a Ksh.300,000 bond.

The matter will be mentioned on March 16.
